• Technology Professional Development - The Technology Team has organized a vision for Northwest Schools. Included in this vision is a plan for professional learning. This plan will consist of opportunities for teachers during the summer, during the school year, and after school in the evenings. Northwest will hire a consultant that is trained in SMART technology to conduct these trainings. The details are listed below.
• SMART technology training will be essential to utilize the technology available in the classrooms. The SMART Boards must not be used as an overhead projector, but it must be interactive. Making lessons interactive will engage special education and at-risk students as well as the general population.
• A rubric is available for teacher to self-assess their technology proficiency. This self-assessment will help determine the professional development needs of the staff.
• Plan:
• Needs Analysis and Staff Survey - Surveys have been conducted and will continue throughout the technology training to align training to needs of the staff.
• Planning - The Technology Team will continue cooperative planning to enhance the training of all staff members.
• Professional Development - Training sessions will be available throughout the summer and the next school year.
• Follow-up - The Technology Team will follow-up with the teachers in their buildings to ensure implementation of technology in all classrooms.
• Technology Training Before School:
• Technology JCISD offering - Smart Board, Weebly, and PhotoStory training will be offered through the JCISD in August. A cost to the teachers is involved in this program.
• SMART Summer School - A free training for teachers will be available August 9-12, 2010. This will include SMART Board training and application and School Fusion training. Two credits will be available for a fee through Spring Arbor University. This course will most likely be taught by Jann Kilgore and Brandon Baker.
• Web Design for Educators - This course, taught by Brandon Baker, will be available for a fee. Three credits through Spring Arbor University can be earned through this training.
• SMART Introduction - A session for beginning users of the SMART system will be available on August 26, 2010. A stipend will be available for participants.
• Technology Summit - On August 31, 2010, the opening day of school, the focus will be on technology. The keynote speaker for all staff will be Rushton Hurley. The afternoon sessions will include further training by Rushton Hurley for the secondary staff. The elementary staff will return to their buildings for the mid-morning and afternoon sessions. This time will focus on SMART Board training.
• Technology Training Throughout the 2010-2011 School Year:
• Jann Kilgore, a current Northwest teacher is retiring and being trained through the SMART Systems company. She will possibly be contracted for the next school year to conduct the SMART Board training sessions.
• T Drive access will be available for teachers to create and share SMART Board lessons and information.
• Kindergarten through 5th Grades will receive one day per month of training and lesson creation based on GLCE’s and Northwest curriculum. The goal of these sessions will be to provide the teachers time to develop interactive lessons that enhance the current curriculum and that can be implemented immediately in the classroom.
• Secondary teachers will receive training every other month and will meet with their departments to collaborate on developing SMART lessons for their specific curriculum.
• This training schedule will be evaluated in December and adjustments will be made as needed.
• Additional coaching will also be available to teachers throughout the school year.
• Monthly after school technology training will still be available for intermediate and advanced SMART Board users. Dinner will be provided at these sessions.
• Professional Development training will be funded through Title II funds. This money is designated specifically for staff professional development.
